Folk for Folk : Art inspired by the past and rooted in the present.

We brought #FolkforFolk to life - a project at the National Waterways Museum Gloucester. It aimed to engage young people with a programme of events and an exhibition inspired by the Canal & River Trust Folk Art collection.

The project encompasses artist commissions, community engagement, events and an exhibition. Open March 23rd-1st June 2024, the exhibition showcased a selection of the canal folk art collection from the museum, alongside new interpretations created for the project.
The project was funded by Arts Council England and the Canal & River Trust.

5 young creatives curated the #FolkForFolk exhibition, and we all visited the National Waterways Museum for research and inspiration. We also went to Compton Verney to see the biggest collection of Folk Art in the country.

At our Matson Makers and Art School groups we learnt new techniques and made pieces ready for the #FolkforFolk exhibition - all at the Ewe Space in Matson.
